I studied Contemporary Textiles at University, but have for the past year created illustrations. The drawings supplied are of course, just to give an example of my work.
In December 2020 I illustrated a short story within a larger novel, by the author Rose Tremain, which was published. Some of these drawings are included. This gave me the confidence to submit drawings to be considered for advertising purposes.
I create my drawings with pencil and watercolours, adding collage to give a slight 3D element to an image.
I am drawn to Opera and Music as narratives tend to describe humanity:- robust, frail, jubilant, sorrowful and the challenge for me as an illustrator is to tell or at least hint of this in a drawing. I’ve drawn scenes from Benjamin Brittan’s Peter Grimes not simply because the brutal poem of Peter Grimes has been varnished with beauty by Benjamin Brittan, but also because it is a folktale, which influences my style.
